The test of association is essentially a chi square test of independence between two categorical variables. The Test of Association analysis investigates relationships between two qualitative (categorical) questions. The analysis automatically takes the modifications needed for small samples (i.e. Fisher's exact test vs. Pearson's chi-square statistic). The beauty of this analysis is that it tells you in plain English whether the variables are independent of each other, and if they are not, it tells you the magnitude of the relationship.
