Product familiarity surveys measure short-term product features preferences; designed primarily to measure consumers' interest and opinions in a product as a function of individual differences in important values, needs, or self-concept. Some researchers state that product familiarity surveys serve two purposes:
- Measure how important is each product feature to consumers
- Understand how, when, and where consumers would purchase a product
- Study the differences in purchase channels, frequency, and needs in various consumer demographics
