Upload Survey Responses


You have collected survey results using another online tool, paper surveys, phone interviews, or other method. Now what? Upload your results and Mineful will automatically create a survey for you ready to continue collecting responses or analyzing them.

  • Step 1. Go to Surveys and Create New Survey.
  • Step 2. Enter a name for this survey.
  • Step 3. Select the option Import an existing Survey.
  • Step 4. Scroll down and click on the Create button.
  • Step 5. Click on the browse button to search for your file on your computer.
  • Step 6. Tell Mineful which columns to import and their question type.
  • Step 7. Mineful will start uploading your survey, this might take a couple of minutes depending how big your file is.
  • Done. When ready, a message will show in the Knowledge Stream and your survey will show on the Survey List.

Question types supported when uploading survey data

  • Multiple Choice(Single Answer). A question that allows a respondent to select only one choice. The data should contain only one column for this question.
  • Multiple Choice(Multiple Answer). This question allows a respondent to select more than one choice. Usually displayed as check boxes on the survey for a question that says "Select all that apply". The data is stored in multiple columns, one for each choice. The values must be binary, 1=choice was selected and 0=choice was not selected. If there is no value, it is assumed choice was not selected.

    In order to group choices into one question, when you select that a question is multiple choice multiple answer, a box appears to the right for you to select a group number. All you need to do is assign the same group number to all those columns that belong in the same question.
  • Input Text. Any column with character values that are open ended, i.e. free text.
  • Rating. A numeric column (no character values allowed) that is used to rate importance, satisfaction, etc.
  • Numeric. Another numeric columns, no characters allowed. Use this if you have a wide range of numeric values.
  • Respondent Attribute. Did you collect or had demographic information about the respondent? Use this option to tell Mineful that the column being uploaded is information about the respondent. You will see the advantages of doing so when doing analyses.
  • Date. Date variables allow you to do trend analyses. Make sure you follow the correct date format. We support only two formats currently, mm/dd/yy and dd/mm/yy.

Append survey data to an existing uploaded survey

You have uploaded survey data as shown above. Now you have additional data points that you want to add to this survey. Mineful lets you easily append data to any survey that you have imported. Simply:

  • Step 1. On the Surveys icon, click on Edit for the survey that you want to append data.
  • Step 2. Click on the Data button in the top menu.
  • Step 3. Browse for your file on your computer and upload.
Note: Only columns uploaded originally will be kept. That is, Mineful will only append data to columns that have already been created. New columns will be ignored. Make sure the column names are the same since Mineful matches columns by name.
